  • SculptureCenter

    Founded by artists in Manhattan in 1928, SculptureCenter is an arts institution dedicated to experimental and innovative developments in contemporary sculpture. SculptureCenter commissions new work and presents exhibits by emerging and established, national and international artists.

    Over the course of the next half-century, as the field of sculpture expanded and evolved, SculptureCenter's exhibition and education programs have as well. In 2001, SculptureCenter purchased a former trolley repair shop in Long Island City, Queens. The building was redesigned by artist and designer Maya Lin, and includes 6,000 square feet of interior exhibition space and a 3,000 square foot outdoor exhibition space.

    Admission:

    There is a $5 suggested donation for entry, $3 for students

  • The Secret Theater

    The Secret Theatre is a custom built theatre designed and constructed as a home for the resident company, The Queens Players and visiting NY theatre companies.  Recent plays include Salome, an updated Othello, the upcoming Little Women and a show based on some of Edgar Allen Poe's stories.

    Yoga in the Park
    Saturdays, 9:30 AM - 10:30 AM & 11 AM - 12 PM
    Kripalu Yoga is a system of Hatha Yoga that integrates body postures, breathing techniques, relaxation and meditation. Taught by Monique Schubert, participants are encouraged to integrate their yoga practices with this very special waterfront environment of nature and art.

    Capoeira in the Park
    Saturdays, 12 PM - 1:30 PM
    Capoeira is a lively martial art that originated in Brazil over 450 years ago. Taught by Professor Abará, self-defense techniques are concealed by graceful dance moves and spectacular acrobatics set to music.

    Pilates in the Park
    Sundays, 10 AM - 11 AM
    Classical Pilates encourages proper breathing, spinal alignment, core strengthening, muscle flexibility and balance in the body. Taught by Cortnie Vitali, participants will leave feeling empowered, and stress free.

    Tai Chi in the Park
    Sundays, 11 AM - 12 PM
    Led by certified instructors from the Taoist Tai Chi Society of the USA, these classes offer the opportunity to learn Taoist Tai Chi; improve one's health; relax; and exercise in an outdoor setting among changing exhibitions of contemporary sculpture.

    Kayaking from Socrates Sculpture Park Beach at Hallets Cove
    Saturdays or Sundays, May 22 - October 9, 1 PM - 5 PM (tide & weather permitting)

  • SPACE WOMb Gallery

    SPACE WOMb, founded in 2009 in Long Island City, is a contemporary art gallery that exhibits abstract works of emerging and established artists from around the world.  The gallery's primary goal is to bring different perspectivess to the audience while helping to develop artists' careers.  The gallery also aims to connect and share artists works with international art institutions.  SPACE WOMb also offers art classes.

  • Sweetleaf

    Coffee's the allure here along with a room for people who want to hang with their computers.  Teas are sold too and Jacques Torres hot chocolate, but Stumptown and Verve are the draw.  Sweetleaf now has a full-time baker who turns out cookies, muffins, cakes, pies and scones.  They are located right at the B62 bus stop at the foot of the Pulaski Bridge--what a location!
